50K !!!

August 30, 2012 § 4 Comments

 Whoo-hoo! I did it! A few days early.   I’ll keep on till the 31st as my characters have much more to say and do. I so want to talk about them but for some reason, every time I give in and do this (talk and/or read and share the writing before the piece is fully baked), I abandon the work. Don’t want to do it anymore.

Mary, Molly & Me – Kid (working title) – Cover Photo! – taken 1973, Leavenworth, WA

But I’ll share a few general things:

working title = Mary, Molly & Me – Kid

genre = children’s novel -“middle grade” (3rd 4th 5th grade)

eensy bit = three friends and their adventures during the summer before 5th grade

Okay that’s all. I’ll let you know of any big updates like when I actually finish the writing. This could take years, you understand. Camp NaNoWriMo was just a catalyst to get a huge chunk of words down on paper. It is hardly a formed story yet. 175 pages of little vignettes. Which is great! Also got me writing every day again. And I especially love that.

 Hey! I’ve been nominated for the Beautiful Blogger Award by Stellar Blogger, World Traveler, Former Trucker & Master Glass Bead Maker – Eunice – of nutsfortreasureThank you, Eunice!  There are rules that come with accepting this award and while I am very grateful to be recognized in this way, I am going to break the rules…as I’m not a prolific blogger nor follower of blogs. But Eunice nominated 40!! bloggers for this award so I am going to have you check out her list to spread the love.

The cardoon plant looks like prehistoric thistle, as does the globe artichoke yummy with melted butter. I hear deep fried cardoon stems are very tasty. This crop is high as an elephant’s eye for sure. “Ohh, what a beautiful morrrninnng…” (sing it!)

Skylight Rescue

I came into the kitchen from a long writing and snoozing session in the hammock (made it to 15,000 words today at Camp NaNo!), and heard this strange electrical type buzzing near the sink. Dishwasher on the blink? Up high, trying to get out through the skylight bubble, was a giant dragonfly. Can’t believe I didn’t think to take a photo of it right then. Wingspan was at least four inches, maybe five.

Beautiful armature. Blue and black checked tail and aqua eyes, striking yellow and green striped body sides, but I haven’t taken the time to identify it from photos on the Dragonfly Site. Maybe you can. Anyway, I grabbed the step ladder and a large plastic food tub and got the giant to step into the bowl of it, then carefully inched it down the wall till I could ease the lid in place. This took some time; it stood its ground against the plastic, not intimidated at all. Finally, by lightly touching the bowl to the tip of its tail, the dragonfly would hop a bit in a micro liftoff, allowing me to slide the bowl further down the wall without injuring its legs. Once outside and the lid removed takeoff was exactly like a helicopter – VWOOOSH – straight up and away.

Gone to Camp!

Greetings from Camp NaNoWriMo!

I’m in a cabin with five other campers I never knew before. One from Long Beach, one from Texas, another from Phoenix, one from Bangalore, and one from Pittsburgh. I got a top bunk, can see out to the stars through a knothole. I can sleep all day if I want, haven’t found the canteen yet but will very soon, and tomorrow I get to make my first lanyard in forty years. The coolest thing about this camp is – besides getting to be here the entire month of August – it’s only Day Two and I’ve already written over 3,000 words.

Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here!
