12 x 12 in 2012: Picture Book Writing Challenge

Here I go – continuing to follow the dream. For the last twenty-five years I’ve illustrated other writers’ stories (wonderful ones – yes! – I’ve been fortunate to be blessed with such work) and finding it harder and harder to sit and focus to write on my own. ‘If I just had some clear time’…’If I could just say no’…’If only -‘ etc. The truth is, these are pretty weak excuses. Nothing is holding me back but me. The time is now and here is the perfect way to get going forward:

12 x 12 in 2012: Picture Book Writing Challenge

Developed by Julie Hedlund, children’s book author and freelance writer, to improve her picture book draft count in 2012…inspired by children’s author Tara Lazar and her great idea – PiBoIdMo  (Picture Book Idea Month) – to come up with a picture book idea a day during the month of November when the annual NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) takes place.

Julie’s 12 x 12 in ’12 is a writing challenge to bring twelve picture book manuscripts to finished FIRST DRAFTs – one manuscript each month – in this year – 2012…which means my first manuscript should be wrapping up to an ending in four more days. Whoo-hoo!  Here I go! Like the enthusiastic writer in Linda Silvestri‘s Official Participant badge above.

Great to find the blog of another 12 x 12er through my google alerts for picture book writing. (Hey, maybe it would be an idea to have a google alert for 12 x 12!)

So exciting that 12 x 12 is helping you move forward on your dream!

Wow, this is admirable, Pierr! I’m fascinated, and eager to see some of your work. Keep us posted so we can cheer you on!

Thanks for the support, Tele! Ambling along here with February’s draft. Not ready to share yet. It’s important for me, personally, to keep a developing project in its nest, under piles of feathers. I don’t know how to talk about it in vague terms without revealing too much. Never have. But when it starts flapping its wings . . . sure!
