Gather

December 9, 2011 § 2 Comments

Returned a window sill of stones to the beach this afternoon. At the time of discovery each one held some special meaning, now I don’t remember specifically. But each served as talisman for something important to me. It’s a challenge to walk the beach and resist the urge to gather its beauty. To have it. Hold it. Keep it.

gather: verb  1. come together; assemble or accumulate  2. take in from scattered places or sources, pick up from the ground, collect as a harvest, collect for food , draw together towards oneself, draw and hold together by running thread through it  3. understand  4. develop a higher degree of  5. summon up (a mental or physical attribute such as one’s thoughts or strength) for a purpose . . . I love the dictionary. Source of captions for the moment. Like this thread of sunlight.

Interesting that you gathered the stones, enjoyed them,
and returned them when they no longer had a meaning for
you….now they are available for others to enjoy.

True true. I wonder how many pounds of stones get collected every year by beachcombers…changing the face of our planet one pebble at a time. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for commenting!
