The sun is black in Volunteer Park. The sculpture by Isamu Noguchi, that is. As kids we called it “The Donut.” Maybe Seattle folks still do, so if it comes up in conversation they know you’re not talking about the donut you dip in coffee, but the monolithic licorice wheel of a stone sitting on the edge of the reservoir rich and smooth containing all colors.
Through the donut hole you see the Space Needle. Behind you the Asian Art Museum, and a one minute stroll to the north takes you through the trees . . .
. . . to meet a few of the locals.
