This one grows back a long time. It began as a photograph taken at my sister’s place in Idaho in 1986. I was visiting on my winter break from Art Center. Dad’s annual Christmas gift of a potted amaryllis had arrived and was already sprouting two wide leaves. Sitting there at the picture window that looked out to a snowy winter scene of the pines and icy Lake N-Sid-Sen, the amaryllis looked as if it was longing to be outside.
Got me to thinking about the ‘still life’ – its inner dimensions in constant movement too subtle to see.
