Flying Lessons

Big day today for the Barn Swallow family. All six siblings were out testing their wings. They perched on the fence all day long, in pairs or a group of four, preening and flapping vigorously especially when mom or dad came in with a snack. Occasionally relatives dropped by to relax.

American Goldfinch looks pretty downy to me but maybe it's an adult male fluffed up.

Sometimes when the adult flew in to feed one of the sibs, it would start a little tussle of wings and verbal commands, causing the baby to leave its perch. Then the two would fly off together for a while.
