Lovin’ the Rain

In fact these bearded iris love it so much they’re growing taller than the trees around here. I literally threw them on the ground when I got them, no planting was involved. This one is near 40 inches high. There’s something Mediterranean about the climate here. In summer a heavy ocean dew falls at night and things are steam bathed as the sun comes up. Then they get baked in the warm air and the soil drains so the zomes don’t rot. They populate like crazy. Some day my yard will be filled with them.
If you’d like to know some science about growing them click HERE for North Carolina State University’s horticultural info leaflet. Why NCSU? Just cuz. It also helps to have tubers from a master gardener who wins blue ribbons for his green thumb wonders at the Puyallup Fair. Thanks, Fred!
